It is held on the 21st September for year 3-4 and the year 5-6 is on the 23rd.  They each have 14 minute games and short breaks.  Last year, the year 3-4s won. Kids enjoy it very much and it is a funfilled day which everyone enjoys. This is a good oppurtunity for kids, who have not played before, to give it a go.

Marlborough Football Reps Give Nelson Competition 9-9-13

By Oscar N.

On Saturday the 7th, the two Marlborough Football 11th Grade Rep Teams travelled over the hill to Neale Park to have two friendly games against Nelson.

Although, friendly is a bit of understatement. Both sides were competitive, using their strength and good will to conquer the other teams. The supposed Marlborough 'A' team won their first game against the Nelson C side 4-0. Unfortunately, the Marlborough B team lost to the Nelson B team. Although the Nelson B side was labelled a B, they were just as skilled as the Marlborough A team, showing how much more skill base the Nelson Rep coaches have to choose from. The Marlborough A lost to them 1-0. "The goal that the B side scored was extremely unlucky. They chipped it over our defenders' heads, and their striker ran on to it and scored," one of the Marlborough A side players said. The B team versed the C team and lost. Even though the teams were scheduled to play two games, they ended up playing three. The B side played against the B team again and the A team versed the Nelson A team. They lost 3-1. The Nelson A team were very good at completeing triangles, a skill when two players pass continously around other defenders. Marlborough's goal was scored by Aidan L. He did a beautiful header, receiving it perfectly after Jonty Z crossed it to him. The Marlborough B team lost against the Nelson B team once again. Unfortunately, the B team did not win any games, although they did draw with the C side. Cheered on by the parents cries and support, the kids played well and fair, with only one foul given to Nelson when a player was called for obstruction. "The player (Marlborough) didn't even do anything. It should have been the Nelson player that was called up. We all had bad experiences with that Nelson player.  He was shoving and pushing so much, many of us fell over," another rep player said.

Many of the players claimed to have seen their coaches pulling at their hair! The kids had sore legs the next day and all of them had to attend practise the next day! Altogether, they had lots of fun and can't wait for tournament to come...

Marlborough Rep teams are set to smash Nelson

By Oscar N. 5-9-13.

Both the Marlborough 11th grade football teams are competing, in two games each, against Nelson on 7th of September, over the hill.

The fantastic footballers are representing our district in friendly games. Both teams are pumped and are confident they can absolutely smash the Nelson teams. Many of the kids have been in the reps two years in a row now, competing last year at a tournament in Nelson. Because of this experience, many of the kids are even more excited to compete this year. The A team is coached by the fantastic coaches Frank Zydenbous and Fred Roubous. The B team is coached by Nigel Pinkerton. Both Frank and Fred are from the Netherlands and are extremely experienced. Nigel is new to coaching but is going well so far. Renwick has four kids in the rep teams (Jonty R-A, Ben I-M-A, Oliver P-B, Oscar N-A). Although it is said that one team is stronger on paper, some say that the teams are actually even. A source said, "Supposedly, there is a stronger team on paper but when they play, there isn't much of a difference." The kids practise at Oliver Park and, when it is raining, at the Simcox Indoor Stadium; indoors they play footsall, a small sided game involving a ball not as bouncy as a 'real' one. On the 29th, the kids go away to their tournament. "It's their first game that matters. If they win that then they get to go to their next game." said Frank. The kids did not realise this last year but knowing this when they go to tournament, they can prioritise their first game. Also, there is a selection of fantastic Under 10s Rep Footballers who go to Renwick School (Oscar S-J-A, Jade O-B, Alfie O-A, Sean G-C -B, Logan W-B, Liam B-B). They go to tournament at the same time as the 11s teams. The 11s are happy to share their previous experiences with the 10s team. Unfortunately, the 10s team are not playing a pre-game.

So the pumped teams can't wait to absolutely 'kick butt' in Nelson!

Waimea Winter Sports' Tournament 2013

by James G. 5-9-13.

On Thursday the 22nd of August, close to 100 Renwick pupils travelled to Nelson to compete in the annual Waimea sports tournament. This year Renwick took 7 teams including, Football, Rugby,Netball, Boys and Girls hockey, Badminton & Volleyball. The tournament lasted two days (Thursday and Friday). It was a tough two days with all the sports teams trying their best to win.

The football team came in 2nd with a tough final.

The girls' hockey also came in a 2nd with a close final.

The rugby team came in 4th and had 3 members of the team removed due to a complaining Bohally team.

Boys' hockey came in 4th with a valiant effort but it wasn’t enough.

The badminton team also came in 2nd.

The netball team tried as best they could but could only get 2nd which is still a great placing.

The volleyball team had the hardest competition, coming in 5th.

One Renwick player stated, "Renwick kinda dominated the tournament this year, coming away with four 2nds, two 4ths and a 5th."
